Ivor Wiggett: 1943-2026
We are sad to report the death of Ivor Wigget on 27 January. Ivor passed away in hospital after a short illness with cancer.
Ivor was involved in athletics and running for most of his 82 years. In the early 1960s he joined Hornsey St. Mary’s Harriers and competed in the Chingford League, which he later became President of until his death this week. His 10 mile personal best stood at under 54 minutes.
He held many roles in the sport, officiating as a highly respected Starter and Starter’s Assistant, and Endurance official. He was also a Road Race Adjudicator and was RunEvents Chair for the London Region. He was involved with runbritain (which later became RunEvents) from its inception. He was also a Life Member of the National Athletics League.

He remained very active in the sport he loved. Just last year he adjudicated at countless road races, taking his total to over 500 races, and officiated at over 60 track and field meets.
Ivor loved being involved in athletics and running. He was always happy to meet runners and event organisers and share a story. Many runners and those who met Ivor will remember his smile and have shared many happy moments with him. Ivor was a true gentleman in every sense, and athletics is lucky to have had him involved.
He will be very much missed by everyone. May he rest in peace.
