England team announced for DNA event
The 18 athletes selected to represent England at the Dynamic New Athletics event at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena on Saturday 5 February have been announced.
The mixed gender team of nine women and nine men will be up against athletes representing Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Spain, and Portugal. Led by captain Scott Lincoln, a strong England team will be aiming for top spot in this fun, new, and innovative competition from European Athletics.
With modified rules, aimed at complementing the classical athletics format, the event will feature:
- A fast-paced two-hour programme of 11 events with only one event at a time
- Head-to-head competition in the field events and all track races being finals
- The overall team standings will remain open and unpredictable until the final event (the Hunt) which will determine the winner, ensuring a nail-biting finish
England’s Team Leader Kelly Sotherton, three times Olympic medallist, said:
We are delighted to confirm the England team to compete in the Dynamic New Athletics event in Glasgow and congratulate all the athletes and coaches on their selection. The event promises to be exciting and action-packed and it’s great that we’re able to provide another opportunity for athletes to compete in an England vest in front of fans at the Emirates Arena. It’s been a while since we’ve seen high-class indoor track and field with supporters present. Hopefully the competition can inspire some future athletics stars watching on, ahead of what is going to be a huge summer for the sport.
