England Athletics supporting the Sporting Equals Awards
England Athletics were proud supporters of the Sporting Equals Awards, which took place in London on Saturday 18 April.
Sporting Equals is the UK’s leading charity promoting race equality in sport and physical activity and their annual event saw all corners of the sporting world come together for an evening of celebration. Hosted by athletics royalty Colin Jackson, the awards recognised the contributions made by ethnically diverse people and communities to sport.
Handing out the England Athletics sponsored ‘Coach of the Year’ Award - to basketball coach and winner Krumesh Patel - was England Athletics board member, double Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist, Lorna Booth MBE OLY.
Lorna commented: “Equality, diversity and inclusion are a responsibility for all of us, and we are committed to ensuring they are a golden thread that runs through everything we do at England Athletics. It was an honour to be asked to present this award, and we’d like to extend our congratulations to all nominees and winners.”
Chris Jones, England Athletics CEO, said: “The Sporting Equals Awards is always an inspiring evening that celebrates the very best that sport has to offer. Sport has the power to change lives, break down barriers and leave a lasting legacy on communities and people across the country, and we have a responsibility to ensure we play our role in making that change happen. England Athletics are proud supporters of the awards and the powerful work Sporting Equals does to drive greater equality across sport.”
