Cardiff 5k: team announcement

England Athletics is delighted to announce a strong team of eight under 20 athletes to compete at the Cardiff 5k.

Women's Team

  • James Knockton (Trafford AC, Richard Goddard)
  • Jacob Deacon (Chorley ATC, Katie Hewison)
  • Ben Brown (Southampton AC, Peter Haynes)

Jasmine Wood gains selection after an excellent period of progression including running big PBs over 5k (16:45) and 3k (9:32) in February. Isobelle Jones joins the team after finishing fourth in the England 5k Champs in August running 16:14 and was 7th at the Mini Marathon in October. Lily Neate is an athlete in excellent current form picking up a bronze medal in the under 20 race at the National Cross Country Championships and setting a 5k PB of 17:03 in February. Sophie Nicholls  gains selection after running 16:47 in 2022 and finished 3rd at the recent Cross Cup Diest XC.

Luke Birdseye joins the team after winning the under 20 race the Inter-counties XC Champs in March and finishing 28th at the World Cross Country Championships in February. James Knockton set a 3000m PB of 8:14 in 2022 and is an athlete in excellent form running the 3rd fastest UK under 20 all time with 29:33 at Trafford in March. Jacob Deacon has also had an excellent winter season finishing 26th under 20 at the World XC Championships and 2nd at the Cross Cup Diest in Belgium. Ben Brown completes at team after an excellent year wth PBs of 14:18 over 5k, 8:19 over 3000m and picking up a silver medal at the National XC Champs.
