Athletes shortlisted in the 2024 Sporting Equals Awards!

The Sporting Equals Awards are back this October, and we are excited to share that six English athletes have been nominated for their outstanding achievements. We are also proud to sponsor the Coach of the Year category at this year's edition of the Awards.

Take a look below at all of the athletics stars who have been nominated. The winners will be announced at a gala evening hosted by Sporting Equals.

Meet the shortlisted athletes:

Kare Adenegan (Coventry Godiva, Job King) - Sportswoman of the Year

Kare has had an outstanding career so far, rounding off the season with some fantastic performances at the Paralympic Games. Kare is now a seven-time Paralympic medallist as she added two silvers to her haul in Paris over the T34 100m and 800m. Not only that, but Kare has also achieved seven world medals and was amongst the first cohort of para athletes to win medals at an integrated Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Yemi Mary-John (Woodford Green & Essex Ladies, Alan James) - UK Sport Rising Star of the Year

Making a name for herself at the 2022 World U20 Championships, Yemi won the 400m in 51.50 seconds, the second fastest time ever recorded by a British under-20 athlete. Just one year later she also became U23 European Champion in a time of 51.04 to set a new personal best, returning to Chelmsford one week later to also take the England title. More recently, Mary-John was part of the bronze medal winning women's 4x400m relay squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games. 

Louie Hinchliffe (Sheffield and Dearne AC) - UK Sport Rising Star of the Year

A previous England and UK champion, Louie Hinchliffe has taken the NCAA by storm after relocating to Houston University and spending the last two seasons stateside. This year he has run a lightning quick 9.95 to take the NCAA title, and progressed through to the Olympic 100 semi-final. His summer didn't end there as he finished the Olympic Games with a bronze medal in the men's 4x100m relay.

Kadeena Cox MBE (Sale Harriers Manchester) - Sportswoman of the Year

Kadeena Cox MBE has had a considerable athletics and cycling career, representing ParalympicsGB at three Games. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2014, Kadeena has since won an outstanding total of seven Paralympic medals across both cycling and track and field, focusing on cycling at the most recent Games in Paris.

Alex Yee (Kent AC) - Sportsman of the Year

It is no secret that Alex Yee has had a fantastic summer, claiming gold in the men's triathlon after an epic final kilometre. Yee didn't stop there as alongside his teammates also won bronze in the mixed triathlon relay. Despite taking the triathlon world by storm, Alex had foundations in athletics having represented Great Britain, and is a frequent member of Kent AC's road relay team!

Coach of the Year category sponsored by England Athletics

This year, we are pleased to be supporting the Coach of the Year category. This award recognises the achievements of a coach working with elite athletes at the highest level of performance in sport. This year the nominees are: Darren Cheesman, Harley Hicks and Manisha Tailor MBE.
