Alan Johnson: 1950-2023

England Athletics is sad to pass on the news from his daughter that Alan Johnson passed away after a short illness. 

Alan played a vast number of roles across multiple clubs, leagues and organisations, and worked closely with many in our sport, especially in the north west. Alan was previously a level 3 Field Judge, took on a number of committee roles at Trafford AC, including membership secretary and the incumbant chair. He was also secretary for the Cheshire Track and Field League and Northern Track and Field League, the Operations Officer for the NAL and the Area coordinator for YDL North.

Alan was a behind-the-scenes figure who contributed much to the sport. He had been his club chair for many years and was instrumental in the building of the new clubhouse in 2000, and continued to be part of the team who managed the stadium on behalf of the club and in its dealings with the Council. He was a key figure in the success of the Trafford Grand Prix and was at the helm of the club during some of its most successful years.
