2025 Para Championships information

This summer both the Senior and Age Group Championships will incorporate our Para Championships. Below are some key pieces of information about the qualification standards and rationale for how the medals will be awarded.

Championship opportunities

Across our championships, we are passionate about ensuring equal and inclusive opportunities for both para and non-para athletes at the correct age and stage. As part of our Championship series, we have four Para Championships, two indoors and a further two outdoors. Below are explanations of the entry information for each championship:

  • Senior Para Championships - Open age group, National or International Classification required. Entry standards apply, whilst our focus for championships is on Paralympic and Commonwealth Games events, in 2025 we have increased the number of events and classifications that are eligible to compete. Medals will be awarded by Raza points and more information about the Raza system can be found here: Technical Information
  • Junior Para Championships - U15, U17, U20 with a National or International Classification required (age 11+ ). There are no entry standards and whilst our focus for championships is on Paralympic and Commonwealth Games events, in 2025 we have increased the number of events and classifications that are eligible to compete. Medals will be awarded by Raza points and more information about the Raza system can be found here: Technical Information

Championship and medal rationale

  • National Para Championships represents the highest level of competition that we deliver for para athletes within England.
  • Entry standards for Senior Para Championships are in place to ensure that we facilitate a high level of competition.
  • Please check the entry standards prior to entering to avoid disappointment.
  • All four of our Championships will have a World Para Athletics license.
  • Junior Para Championships offers a developmental competition environment where junior para athletes can compete with peers at a similar age.
  • Our National Championships are an integral part of the pathway and we are committed to offering quality competition in quality competition environments like Alexander Stadium and the English Institute of Sport.
  • Athletes with a disability who are either not yet classified or who have not met the entry standards for Senior Para Championships are encouraged to enter other competitions locally to continue their development journey. Examples include (but are not limited to) the Activity Alliance National Championships, The CP Sport National Championships, Stoke Mandeville Grand Prix Series, SCAA Disability Champs, Avon Track & Field League.
  • If there are less than two entries in a given event, we will look to combine events to make them viable, however, where this is not feasible or the competition team feel this is not in the best interest of the athlete, we reserve the right to cancel the event and issue a refund.
  • Standards are set through consultation with England Athletics National Event Group Leads and UK Athletics to ensure we facilitate a high standard of competition whilst supporting the varying developmental needs of each event group.

On the upcoming Championships Matt Kendrick, National Para Athletics Manager, said:

"Setting standards for our Senior Para Championships is always a challenging task. We have worked hard to implement a system and approach that is fair and equitable across the board. In 2025 we have increased the number of events and classifications that are eligible to compete and have set the entry standards based on either the median result (mid-point) from the World Para Athletics rankings from 2024 or the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships minimum entry standard (MES), whichever is more attainable. In some events, for example the Commonwealth Games para events we have adjusted the standard to ensure the right level of competition."
