2011 Commonwealth Youth Games Isle of Man
Isle of Man 2011
From 7th to 13th September 2011 the Isle of Man welcomed the youth of the Nations of the Commonwealth for the IV Commonwealth Youth Games.
1000 athletes from 63 nations and territories competed in seven sports: Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rugby 7s and Swimming.
The major physical legacy of the Games is the newly-revamped 3,000-seater National Sports Centre 'The Bowl'. 800 volunteers, more than 400 officials and several thousand visitors, including family and friends of athletes helped make the Games a huge success.
A team of 28 athletes from England competed in the athletics from 9th to 11th September, winning a record 19 medals. Team leader Peter Stanley said: "This weekend proves that we have great young talent in England and the quality of coaching is helping that talent.
"Things are going great and the team at England have come here and supported the talented personal coaches and athletes to facilitate performance through enjoyment."

England Team Selection
England Athletics has a specific objective for the age group Championships being held in 2011. It is important to England Athletics to have successful individual performances at the Commonwealth Youth Games as we recognise their importance in the development of our senior international athletes towards success at the Senior Commonwealth Games.
The selection policy has been created to nominate a team to achieve the best possible results at the Games. England Athletics will use this policy to select a team, which will then need to be ratified by Commonwealth Games England (CGE). The CGE will allocate EA a maximum team size, England Athletics intends to nominate the maximum number of athletes that the CGE allocates to us.
