Starter/Starter's Assistant

What does being a Starter involve?
- Set-up and test the electronic start system.
- Liaising with starter’s assistants.
- Issue starting commands and any warning cards to athletes.
- Identify any false starts or starting infringements.
What does being a Starters’ Assistant involve?
- Call-up athletes for each race and check bib numbers.
- Inform athletes their heat number/lane.
- Indicate to starter race is ready / any issues after start commands.
- Issue any warning cards to athletes based on instructions of starter.
Three steps to becoming a Level 1 Starter/Starter’s Assistant official
- Attend a Level 1 Starter/Starters Assistant official course.
Duration: 2.5 hours.
For anyone 16 years old or over. - Complete the online safeguarding and health and safety modules that can be completed at your own pace.
Available within Athletics Hub > Online Courses > myLearning - Complete a DBS Check (myAthletics Portal > Apply Online DBS) and upload a licence photograph (myAthletics Portal > Personal Details > Edit).
