On 31 March 2021, Virgin Money London Marathon provided an update on the allocation of club places to affiliated clubs which has been affected due to the cancellation of the event in 2020. All clubs that had places in 2020 will be offered the same number of places for each of the 2021 and 2022 events, minus their number of deferred club entries from 2020. This process is therefore an allocation of new places rather than an invitation to apply for new places. Due to the number of rolled-over places from the cancelled 2020 event, Virgin Money London Marathon has confirmed it will not be possible to offer 2021 or 2022 places to clubs that did not hold them in 2020.
