Athlete status checks by registered event organisers

  • Ensure you receive the full entries monies that you are due
  • Ensure your competition is held fairly under UKA Rules for competition

Whether you organise a road race, a track and field league or another form of competition you are likely to want to check the status of athletes entering your events.

Road race organisers should not miss out on revenue due to athletes falsely claiming the competition licence holders' discount on race entries. Only eligible athletes should be able to score points whether for their team or individual rankings.

Checks for road race entries

The runbritain online entry system is available to any race that obtains its UKA Race Licence  through runbritain.

The online entry system asks for a runner’s unique runners number (URN) which is then automatically checked through the England Athletics database to ensure that a runner is genuinely affiliated to the governing body. This is important from a race organiser’s perspective because it ensures that the £2.00 differential between affiliated and unaffiliated runners goes to the race. No other system offers this level of checking and guarantee of a runner’s status.

For full details on race licensing go to www.runbritain.com/rdp and for specific questions on the runbritain online entry system please contact Gavin Lightwood glightwood@uka.org.uk

Checking athletes' statuses

We also recommend you:

  • Remind entrants of the rules around registration and that checks, including spot checks, are carried out
  • Ask athletes for their URNs (also referred to as licence number or England Athletics number) at entry – this makes eligibility checks much easier
  • Use www.englandathletics.org/licencechecks to carry out bulk or individual checks
  • Where possible use entry systems such as runbritain for road races which carry out registration checks at point of entry
  • Check registrations as early as possible (for example at point of entry) to enable those not registered to get their registration in order before the competition date
  • Note that, the rules allow scope for retrospective registration of athletes for up to one week following the competition, after which it will be deemed the rule has been broken
    • This does not remove your right to require athletes are registered at point of entry, by time of competition or in accordance with other rules you may have in place for your competition or league. Stating clearly your requirements will help athletes, team managers and others in meeting registration requirements
  • If you require further advice or guidance please contact us. If you require advice or support contacting us in advance of taking entries or making checks on entrant/ participants will help us give you the advice or support in good time
