The England Athletics Hall of Fame honours those people who have made outstanding contributions to athletics and running. It was launched in 2008 with a panel of experts selecting a list of potential inductees for athletics & running fans and members of the public to vote on.
England Athletics Hall of Fame and National Volunteer Awards 2021
Greats of athletics, Greg Rutherford, Paul Nihill, Cherry Alexander, Tony Jarrett, Sheila Sherwood, Lloyd Cowan, Verona Elder, and Jason Gardener were inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the NEC on 23 October 2021. As well as the new inductees to the England Athletics Hall of Fame, the night saw volunteers from across the country honoured in the National Volunteer Awards to celebrate their dedication and service to the sport.
Athlete of the Decade 2010-2019
Paralympic great David Weir CBE was crowned Athlete of the Decade 2010-2019 during Saturday’s star-studded Hall of Fame and Awards evening. David, affectionately known as the ‘Weir Wolf’, topped a public vote which also featured Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Sir Mo Farah as the other two shortlisted athletes.
National Volunteer Awards 2020
These were announced during an online broadcast via our website on Saturday 23 January 2021. The Hall of Fame 2020 did not take place due to COVID restrictions. The volunteers were invited to the 2021 Hall of Fame event and recognised for their achievements there.
