This autumn and winter England Athletics has launched a new series of event specific workshops which see coaches and their athletics coming together for training and development opportunities. These events have been well received by the coaches and athletes with more events planned for early 2018 that you can now book on to.
England Athletics have a series of upcoming Physical Preparation workshops scheduled from January to March 2018 which are designed as a progression for coaches / leaders that have attended England Athletics Movement Skills workshops or are experienced in the delivery of physical preparation training.
England Athletics is delighted to announce a series of exclusive opportunities to sit and chat with Malcolm Brown about all things endurance. Malcolm has been coach to many international athletes as well as Olympic triathlon medalists Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. Numbers are very limited to allow time for coaches to interact and get the most out off the session with Malcolm. Each session is also followed by one of our Marathon Evening sessions with Nick Anderson and other experts.
A change in government legislation regarding data protection called The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)will be in place from 25th May 2018. Athletics and running clubs will have to ensure that they are compliant with the new Government regulations. England Athletics has produced guidance for affiliated clubs and associations to help with identifying the key areas that they should be addressing as a result of the additional requirements arising from the upcoming introduction of GDPR.
With 2018 on the way we have published our list of track and field championships for 2018. Our championships page also includes details of other national events and a downloadable PDF of other key events on the fixture list.
The Brighton Marathon are once again offering England Athletics registered athletes guaranteed entries at their event. They are also offering specific packages for domestic elite athletes, including domestic athlete only prize funds, and the race is also a qualifying event for Masters Athletes to gain selection to represent England.
The London Volunteer Award winners have already been announced but we can now report on their presentation evening. The event was held on Wednesday 15th November at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health in central London. Special thanks go out to Donna Fraser, Ernest Simons and David Gorgeous and the event was led by London Council Chair Peter Crawshaw.
As part of the governance review of the sport the Board have agree to review the purpose of the England Athletics Council Structure. We would like to remind you that we want to hear from people within the affiliated sport who are interested in having a role in this process as a representative of England Athletics' member clubs. The deadline for stating your interest is this Friday.
Whatever event group, age or level of athlete you coach we have some great opportunities for coaches coming up before the end of the year. We've had some fantastic events already this winter and look forward to seeing you at the workshops and events over the next few weeks.
In the 10th year of the Tom Pink Relays event, the atmosphere at Lee valley recently buzzed with young athlete teams "Chasing Kelly", "Chasing Steve", and "Keeping Up with Paula" on the track. Meanwhile, others competed in events such as Caber Toss and Highland Steps, as well as more traditional Sportshall events like Standing Long Jump and Shot Put. The Tom Pink Relays also provided great opportunities for new volunteers to give officiating a try.
