England Athletics Chief Executive Chris Jones went to visit the Berkshire club along with Club Support Manager John Harris. The club has a range of training and competition opportunities for athletes but has also been very proactive in the development of young volunteers.

The three Bexley Mencap runners, Luke, Emmanuel and Matt, like to keep fit, and are regular members of Bexley Mencap's Run Together group which provides Keep Fit classes for people with Learning Disabilities.
East End Road Runners were out in force at the Big Half marathon. Most of the club were either running the half marathon or volunteering on a water station at mile 3. For a lot of members this was the furthest distance they had run.
The ERWL and Enfield Haringey AC lost a great supporter and servant when Bernie Hercock passed away on 25th February. Bernie's funeral will take place at 11.30am on 21st March at The Enfield Crematorium. We publish an obituary sent by the Club.
Our Team Spirit Champions session are now underway and helping clubs develop the best ways to attract volunteers, and of ensuring their volunteers have an enjoyable and effective involvement in the sport. Almost a year ago, Bexley Mencap were lucky enough to be the first recipients of the good deeds carried out by the local GoodGym initiative. GoodGym are a Bexley group who combine keeping fit with performing handy tasks and jobs - running to and from their tasks. Last month Bexley Mencap RunTogether group worked alongside Bexley GoodGym for a session tidying up one of the local alleyways!
Before Christmas, we held pilot sessions for our brand-new Team Spirit Champions training. These free, fast-paced, interactive sessions will send you back to your club with plenty of ideas to bring bigger smiles to the faces of the people that make our sport happen: you, the volunteers! Many of our England Athletics registered athletes, coaches and RunTogether members take part in their local parkrun. One local Mencap RunTogether group has encouraged some of its members to take up the parkrun challenge. Matt Lett recently completed his 50th parkrun and has inspired some of his group to also take up the challenge!
