Championship season is just around the corner

The wait is finally over! After a long and rainy winter period, spring is now upon us, and the outdoor track and field season is here at last. The endurance athletes have run the miles, the sprinters perfected their starts, wheelchair racers trained hard, the jumpers practiced their run-ups and the throwers their release.  All in the hope that when the summer season comes, PBs, medals and new records will be on the agenda.

When it comes to high-performing athletes, we know that the one percents make all the difference. And that is why we have chosen to do things a little differently at the England Athletics Championships this summer. To give athletes that competitive edge when they come to compete. So, what have we changed?

The new format

This year, the England Athletics Championships have been condensed. The outdoor championships will take place across two weekends with both weekends including a Friday afternoon session, in addition to full days on Saturday and Sunday. Both Championships will remain integrated and Para events will be included.

This change has been made based on feedback from athletes and careful analysis of the Championship programme. Furthermore, condensing the Championships helps free up a couple of weekends within the busy summer calendar so our dedicated team of officials and volunteers who help deliver our Championships can support other events, or simply have a break! We are really excited about this new format as we believe it will enhance the experience of athletes and runners and give them an extra one percent as they look to compete at our championships in the summer.
