Improvements to the Athletics Coach Qualification for 2018

British Athletics, in partnership with the Home Country Athletics Federations, has completed a review of the Coach Qualifications Pathway. As a result, and following pilot courses run last year, an improved Athletics Coach Award is being launched.

This winter England Athletics is delivering a series of workshops available to coaches working at all levels, across all event groups. Many coaches have already attended events and you can get involved to help develop your coaching and help your athletes to get more from the sport.

CEO Club Visits - City of Plymouth AC

England Athletics’ Chief Executive, Chris Jones, and Facilities & Planning Manager, Jonathan Lee, headed down to the South West to visit the Devon club along with Club Support Manager Richard Ayling.

Young visually impaired runner gets his whole family active

Registered Guide Runner Colin Johnson continues to put visually impaired running on the map.  He was recently filmed for BBC Inside Out West where he was helping a visually impaired 9-year-old to train for a parkrun and get his whole family active.

Regional Coach and Athlete Workshop - Endurance (Taunton)

Endurance workshops looking at specific areas for endurance coaches looking to develop their athletes. This workshop will cover the basic aspects and key areas of use of biomechanics in endurance: movement assessment and analysis, video assessment, hurdle drills, drill sets progressions and programming .

Taunton Athletics Track

From LiRF to CiRF - going from being a Run Leader to coaching your runners (Taunton)

The step from being a leader to becoming a coach can be a challenge.  This workshop will give detailed information on the differences between the roles and the steps leaders will take as they take a coaching qualification. The workshop is for people who are currently qualified Run Leaders* who are looking to progress to the Coach in Running Fitness Course.

Team Spirit Champions session (Cheltenham)

Team Spirit Champions sessions have been developed by England Athletics to help clubs and groups to create greater experiences for volunteers, make it easier for volunteers to carry out their roles, and easier for new people to get involved.

Physical Preparation - mobility, movement and performance (Bodmin)

Focussing on how athletes can improve mobility, movement and therefore athletic performance, this workshop builds on the content in the England Athletics Movement Skills workshop. This workshop looks at movement assessment and interventions including use of foam rollers, hurdle mobility and coordination drills and strength training progressions.
