On Saturday 30th September the South West Regional Council are hosting the Annual South West Conference, the regional England Athletics Consultation, and the South West Region Volunteer Awards presentation at the Isca Centre in Exeter.
With our 2017 consultation events now under way we are pleased to announce details of more of the venues for this year's events. Whatever your role in the sport we want you to come along, tell us what you think and discuss the issues facing the sport as we shape our future work. In April, the South West Regional Council held the South West Road Relays in partnership with England Athletics. The Regional Council are keen to run the relays again in 2018. As part of the planning process for 2018, the Regional Council are keen to engage with clubs to find out their thoughts regarding suitable locations, cost, distance per leg, number of runners per team, age categories, incentives, etc.
Each workshop will look at specific areas for endurance coaches looking to develop their athletes. Subjects covered across thse workshops will include topics such as Competition planning, Physical preparation, Planning & periodisation, Workloads - how much is appropriate and when to increase, Psychology & sports performance, Biomechanics & drills, and Work, rest ratios & cycles.Taunton Athletics Track

England Athletics will be hosting regional coach and athlete workshops covering all of the sprints and hurdles events (100m – 400m, sprint and long hurdles). The workshop format will be a 1.5hr theory based session on managing athletes in a training environment and a 1.5hr practical session putting theory into practice. The practical session will have an event specialist to identify key principles in order to add value and context to your coaching. Day two of the workshop on how to develop the movement skills which will enable your athletes to move more quickly and efficiently, generate greater force and reduce the risks of injury.
