We have now published information on our track and field championships for 2018, as well as details of many other national and major events taking place in 2018. The national championships for 2017 are not yet over though. This weekend sees the English Schools' AA Cross Country Cup Final which is previewed below.

You can also find details on Club and Championships entries for both the Virgin Money London Marathon and Club, Elite and Masters entries for the Brighton Marathon (which also provides a Masters selection opportunity to represent England).

There is a wide range of further useful information featured for clubs, athletes and volunteers below for you to take a look at. And we would remind you to save the date for our volunteer conference to be held in Birmingham on Saturday 3 February if you have not yet done so.

English Schools' AA Cross Country Cup Final: preview English Schools' AA Cross Country Cup Final: preview

The English Schools' AA 37th Cross Country Cup Final takes place this Saturday 27th November at Sevenoaks School in Kent.  Competing for the school team title are Juniors (years 7/8) and Intermediates (years 9/10). This year’s course is around the school, with the course going slightly uphill at the start and from about half way round the final section it is flat and fast.

Following a highly successful switch to Prestwold Hall near Loughborough in 2017, the National Cross-Country Finals for school years 5, 6, and 7 will return to the same venue on Saturday March 24th 2018. England Athletics will be supporting the event again, and with the action from the course being live-streamed on a 12 metre screen, and live across the world, it certainly has a big occasion feel about it.

Our 2017 National Young Volunteer of the Year- Liam Hunt, will be a familiar name to many: Vice Chair of the England Athletics Youth Panel, Coach and Official, 20-year-old Liam certainly keeps himself busy.

2018 Virgin Money London Marathon Club and Championship entries now open 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon Club and Championship entries now open

The Virgin Money London Marathon have opened club entries and published the entry process and place allocation for the 2018 event. Club secretaries must submit their application by 5pm on Friday 8 December. Applications for a championship entry into the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon are also now open. Runners will need to submit their application by 5pm on Monday 8 January 2018.

Club and elite places for 2018 Brighton Marathon - plus Masters selection opportunity for England Club and elite places for 2018 Brighton Marathon - plus Masters selection opportunity for England

The Brighton Marathon are once again offering England Athletics registered athletes guaranteed entries at their event. They are also offering specific packages for domestic elite athletes, including domestic athlete only prize funds, and the race is also a qualifying event for Masters Athletes to gain selection to represent England.

On the 4th April 2018 the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will be getting underway on Australia’s Gold Coast.  Last month, Team England announced which athletes had been selected to take the 75 allocated places on the athletics squad, and those athletes will now be preparing for what is considered the competition pinnacle for England representative teams. We will be catching up with various members of the squad as they set their sights on next year’s event in Queensland.

UK Athletics, England Athletics and our colleagues at the Home Country Athletics Federations welcome the news that the Sports Minister Tracey Crouch has secured ministerial support to change the law on positions of trust to include sports coaches. Our organisations have supported the NSPCC campaign for this change in the law, with the UK Athletics welfare team continually lobbying over a number of years.
