This week we are pleased to announce the Team England Athletics squad for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. We also report on our 10 Mile champs and the representative opportunity at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Adam Gemili, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Greg Rutherford and Dina Asher-Smith are among the 75 names announced for Team England’s athletics squad for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The team, which consists of England’s top athletes, already has 18 Commonwealth medals and 46 Commonwealth Games appearances between them, while a number of the chosen athletes will be competing at their very first multi-sport Games.
The Simplyhealth Great South Run in Portsmouth this weekend was once again host to the England Athletics 10 mile Championships. High quality domestic fields in both the men’s and women’s races, plus the additional late entry of Storm Brian on the Friday evening meant that it was going to be hard fought battle for the national titles.
As part of the programme of activities for coaches and athletes this winter highly-ranked athletes aged 17 - 23 and their coaches got together for a national event at Loughborough. Around 40 coaches with their athletes were in attendance, including athletes who have won national senior and age group titles, competed for the British Under 20 team at the European Junior Championships or for the England team at the Commonwealth Youth Games. There are more opportunities for coaches and athletes you can get involved in.
England Athletics took a team of 5 to this annual marathon event along with team coach Graeme Riley. The three men wearing England vests were Jonathan Poole, Ben Johnson and Lee Grantham and two women were Tish Jones and Anna Boniface.
As part of the governance review of the sport the Board have agree to review the purpose of the England Athletics Council Structure. We would like to hear from people who are interested in having a role in this process as a representative of England Athletics’ member clubs.
A reminder to any club runners out there still looking for a place at the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash incorporating the England 10k Championships that entries are still open, although fast approaching capacity.
