There are some great competitions to report on and look forward to this week. Last weekend we saw the England Athletics 10,000m titles decided with the Under 17 and Under 15 Championships including the age group disability athletics championships taking place this weekend.

We want to hear from a wide range of people from across athletics and running at our consultation events, and nominations for an elected Board member close shortly.

This weekend sees our last major track and field championship of the summer with the England Athletics Under 17 and Under 15 championships (which includes our Disability Athletics Age Group championships) taking place in Bedford.  There have been over 1300 entries from over 1000 athletes so it should be a busy and competitive two days.

Chris Thompson rolled back the years to run 28:40.40 in taking a convincing victory and gold at the England 10,000m championships at the Trafford Grand Prix in Manchester at the weekend.  The women’s race saw a dominant performance from Charlotte Arter who continued her fine recent form in racing to a new lifetime best of 32:37.52.

Coaching Masterclass: Jeremy Fischer Coaching Masterclass: Jeremy Fischer

Jeremy Fischer is Director and Head Coach of the USATF Residence program at Chula Vista.  The Masterclass is aimed at coaches and will include Jeremy’s journey from athlete to coach, Jeremy’s key coaching philosophy, content of his training sessions and a Q&A session.

Would your club or group really benefit from involving more officials, or do you know a club in your area that would? Are you unsure where to start to get more people involved? If so putting on an Officials Taster Session, could be a great way of raising awareness of the opportunities available and highlight what a positive experience officiating is! You can also access free resources from Team Personal Best to help with this or other types of activity.

England Athletics are holding a junior mountain running trial race in Sedbergh on 27th August for the 2017 Junior Home International which will be hosted by Scotland and take place at Peebles on 16th September.  If you'd like the chance to represent England, why not come and take part?

A Tribute Service for Bob Smith will be held at 2pm on Saturday 2nd September 2017, at Brunel University London (Indoor Training Area), Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, Middlesex, UB8 3PH. Further details on the arrangements are available here.

The Aviva Community Fund launches on 12 September and gives community projects, including those working in sport and recreation, the chance to win funding that will change lives.  The Fund is suported by the Sport and Recreation Alliance who are specifically focusing on grassroots sport and recreation because that is the area which needs most support to get the nation active.

As a part of Team Spirit we’re highlighting the work of some of our amazing volunteers, one of these volunteers celebrated a special birthday recently, Mike Burrell from Bicester Athletics Club. Mike has been coaching athletes since 1961; wanting to give something back to the sport that he loved. He’s also qualified as a Field judge and has spent time as the Surrey County Coaching Secretary.
