Day One of the England Athletics AAA and UK CAU Senior Champs incorporating the England Athletics Senior Disability Athletics Championships produced some great competition with close battles and impressive performances on the track and in the field catching the eye.
With Manchester International Selection and Commonwealth Games places still very much on athletes’ minds day two of England Athletics AAA and UK CAU Senior Champs incorporating the England Athletics Senior Disability Athletics Championships meant competition was a good standard despite the blustery, cool conditions.
England Athletics is greatly saddened to hear news of the death of Bob Smith. Bob made a huge contribution to the sport and the work of England Athletics as a volunteer and member of England Athletics staff. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends in the sport at this time. Funeral details are now available.
England Athletics are pleased to announce that the England 2017 Half Marathon and 10 Mile Road Championships this coming Autumn will once again be in partnership with the popular Great North Run and Great South Run events. The Great North Run (Half Marathon) takes place in Newcastle on Sunday 10th September, and the Great South Run (10 Miles) in Portsmouth on Sunday 22nd October.
Passionate about everyone getting involved in our sport? Want to do something to celebrate and access a small grant to help? England Athletics and the Team Personal Best campaign (www.teampersonalbest.org) are inviting clubs to hold Inspiration Days (ParaAthletics Inclusive Days) to encourage their communities to get involved and try our sport this summer.
England Athletics Chief Executive Chris Jones went along to visit Ivanhoe Robins with Club Support Manager Heidi Bradley. Also visiting the club for the evening was international distance runner Gemma Steel. Chris, Heidi and Gemma met young athletes, volunteers, and staff of the school where the club meets. They had the opportunity to find out more about how the club currently operates and plans to develop.
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of annual volunteer awards, our opportunity to celebrate the great things they do. Volunteers are at the heart of the athletics and running community, and this sport wouldn’t happen without their enthusiasm and effort. We are once again inviting you to celebrate our unsung heroes who give their time to improve our sport and the experience of all who take part in it!

Among the athletes selected for the England team after becoming national champions this weekend are former World Championships silver medallist Hannah England, European U23 Champion Ojie Edoburun, rising star of high jumping Tom Gale and World Championships 4 x 400m medallist Margaret Adeoye. They will be part of the England team who will take on Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland & Ulster, a GB & NI Under 20 team as well as a combined British Athletics League/ UK Women’ League team at Manchester Regional Arena.
