We report on events including the successes of our England teams in the international senior, U20 and Schools cross country champs, and our race walkers in Switzerland, as well as a new partnership with Race for Life.  We have news from our Youth Advisory Group and Regional Councils. There is also information for clubs on athlete wellbeing and social media resources.

England take full set of Home Countries Cross Country titles England take full set of Home Countries Cross Country titles

The England Teams won all four team titles and three individual golds when the Home Countries International Cross Country was held at the Margam Country Park near Port Talbot, Wales on Saturday.  However the English runners had to pull out all the stops to hold off a strong Scottish squad in all four of the HCI races.

Emulating their U20 and Senior England team counterparts, the England Athletics School teams also took top spot in all their SIAB cross country races.  The Schools' International XC took place on the same day and venue as the Home Countries International XC held at the Margam Country Park near Port Talbot, Wales last Saturday.

England Athletics works with a range of partners to promote the wellbeing of all athletes involved in the sport, whatever their ability, aspiration or event. We want to help clubs and those involved in the sport in adopting a preventative approach to identify athletes who may be at the early stages of eating disorders.

RunTogether and Race for Life supporting women in their running RunTogether and Race for Life supporting women in their running

RunTogether and Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life have launched a new initiative to support women taking part in Race for Life events. By becoming part of a local RunTogether group women are able to access the advice, support and encouragement that is available to help them with their running. Members of RunTogether groups will also be encouraged to get involved in Race for Life events.

The Primary and Year 7 National Schools' Cross Country Championships, endorsed by England Athletics, took place on Saturday 25th March at Prestwold Hall, Leicestershire.

New Regional Councillors take up their roles New Regional Councillors take up their roles

Following the recent nomination/ election process a number of new councillors have now taken up their places on the nine regional councils of England Athletics. These councils are now in the process of electing their regional chairs, who will also take up the region's position on National Council, and can also coopt other members.

Exciting times ahead for the Youth Advisory Group Exciting times ahead for the Youth Advisory Group

The first Youth Advisory Group meeting of the year took place recently.  The group welcomed new members from across the UK, keeping strong connections with neighbouring National Governing Bodies to ensure the Group is represented across the UK to promote the work members do within the sport, and also the awareness of the group throughout the UK.

Tom Bosworth, Callum Wilkinson and Gemma Bridge starred for England Athletics in a high-quality Lugano Trophy Meeting in Switzerland last weekend.  Cameron Corbishley clocked a new Personal Best and in the Under 20 10km races, Chris Snook  improved his personal best and Tom Partington finished in his second quickest time for the distance.

Social Media is a great potential way for clubs to share information with their members and others who may potentially be interested in the sport.  Knowing the basics of Social Media can help your club make the most of channels such as Facebook and Twitter.

England Athletics has produced a detailed Guide to using Social Media for clubs. This resource is only available to our affiliated clubs to help them make the most of their online presence, particularly using social media resources such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but also advise how to do so safely.
