Spa Striders use Club Run to prepare for 5k and 10k events

Warwickshire based club Spa Striders are one of a number of clubs who have recently completed the England Athletics Club Run programme. The club welcomed the visits by Gloucestershire based coach, Kerry Newell. The sessions were aimed at helping prepare runners for the 5 miles and 10k distances, with a number of the club's runners going on to set personal bests at a 10k race in February.

Bernie Hercock: 1936-2018

The ERWL and Enfield Haringey AC lost a great supporter and servant when Bernie Hercock passed away on 25th February. Bernie's funeral will take place at 11.30am on 21st March at The Enfield Crematorium. We publish an obityary sent by the Club.

Active Sussex's collaboration between public health and sport and physical activity sectors

On 22 February in Brighton, the Active Sussex Network brought together 65 local stakeholders to discuss best practice in engaging with inactive communities, drawing from examples from keynote speaker, Birmingham City Council's Karen Creavin. The County Sports Partnership are increasingly witnessing collaboration between the public health and sport and physical activity sectors, as more and more studies confirm the positive benefits of physical exercise for health and mental wellbeing.

21 percent growth in National Cross Country champs participants

Cross country runners turned out in droves to compete in the Saucony English National Cross Country Champs last Saturday. The venue - Parliament Hill Fields - is what many consider as the Home of the sport. Overall the numbers finishing totalled 6444 - up 1156 on the 2015 record, a fantastic 21% growth.

With big fields taking to the start line to charge up the famous start of the Parliament Hill course there was a tremendous atmosphere for 'The National'. While Phoebe Low and Adam Hickey took the senior crowns, there were some hugely impressive displays across the other age groups as the younger athletes were clearly unintimidated by historically tough course.

ECCA National Cross Country championships

It's a busy weekend of action coming up - as well as the the English Cross Country AssociationNational Cross Country championships at Parliament Hill, there's the England Age Group indoor championships in Sheffield and Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow. This year's cross country event at Parliament Hill is in fact the 16th time that a Championship has been held at the iconic venue since the first in 1950. The traditional uphill start is planned again.
