The personal bests and championship records continued to tumble on the second day of the New Balance English Schools' Track and Field 2018 Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.
When the first day of the New Balance English Schools' Track and Field Championships got underway at Birmingham the athletes made the most of the opportunity to show their talent. With a stack of field events finals throughout the day there was impressive action happening constantly.
The New Balance English Schools' AA Track and Field Championships 2018 will take place this Friday and Saturday 13-14th July at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. Great Britain N.I. topped the medal table at the recent European U18 Championships Hungary underlining the wealth of talent emerging from the schools system in recent years. Many of those medallists are due to compete in Birmingham, which provides another chance to see future stars earn their stripes on a national level.
Allerton Junior Athletics Club continues to develop athletes at county standard. Head coach of AJAC Glen Hilton is very proud of his athletes' achievements especially as the Club has only been in operation for three years. Glen said "I just love watching athletes enjoy our sport, doing well and developing."
The World Mountain Running Association International Youth Cup for under 18 athletes took place in Lanzada, Italy. The 4.3km course included a 290m ascent and descent. Matthew Mackay stormed to victory - leading the England Junior Men to a team gold medal. The England Junior Women improved their finishing position from 7th last year to 5th.
The track and field both saw some superb competitions as Bedford hosted the England Athletics U23 and U20 Championships. With places for the World Junior Championships also being contested and opportunities for U18s to also post performances ahead of selections being made for the European Youth Championships the athletes stepped up to produce the goods.
Jake Norris provided the highlight of the first day of the England Athletics U23 and U20 Championships as he unleashed a new UK record in the U20 hammer. There were impressive performances across a number of other events as the titles were decided.
This weekend saw new marks set in both the Senior and Under 20 Women's Heptathlon championships as the Combined Events action continued at Bedford. The men's events also saw tremendous competitions including an absolutely thrilling finale to the Under 20 men's event.
There will be strong competition across a range of events at Bedford International Athletics Stadium this Bank Holiday Monday as the BIGish Jumps and Throws Fest returns. High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot, Discus and Hammer will be showcased throughout the day and the event looks set for some excellent competitions.
The WMRA International Mountain Running Youth Cup will take place at Lanzada, Italy on 16 June. We are pleased to announce the England team who will compete at the event.
