The AAA Tom Pink Relays have been bringing joy to thousands of children across the country each year since 2007. The format, which introduces athletics competition to the younger age groups, has been funded from a legacy left to the AAA by the Pink Family in memory of their son Tom, a keen athlete who was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 18.
A look at some of the top athletics performances from the past week at events including the Youth Olympic Games, Durban 10km, Manchester Half Marathon, Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run, and the Cardiff Cross Challenge. Other highlights include the Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival (Australia), The Running Festival at Goodwood, Eden Project Marathon (Cornwall), and Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon.
A 16 strong team of Under 20 and Under 23 athletes performed admirably in the Rennes 10k International team competition in Brittany, France which took place on Sunday 14 October.
The 2018 MBNA Chester Marathon played host to the second ever England Athletics Age Group Team, as masters runners from a wide variety of clubs across the country grasped the opportunity to represent their country with distinction.
The Saucony English Cross Country Relays take place this year on Saturday 3rd November once again at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield. This is the 30th year that the event has been held on the compact course, with the venue and gathered club cross country enthusiasts generating a great atmosphere.
Callum Davidson (Ribble Valley Harriers, self-coached) and Rory Domville (Reading AC / Bath Uni, coach: Derek Hawkins) both performed competently in a top quality field in the Smarna Gora Mountain Running Race in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Saturday. The race was the final round of the World Cup Series of 5 races.
England's men's and women's teams both came away from the first staging of the Commonwealth Half Marathon Championships. As well as medals the team also picked up a host of PBs in the event in Cardiff.
There was a great day of action at Sutton Park as the Senior Men and Women and Young Athletes contested the autumn road relays titles. With Stockport Harriers claiming the men's title for the first time in the club's history and Aldershot, Farnham District winning the women's title for the third consecutive year the young athletes races saw the titles shared around.
Teams from across the globe will gather in Cardiff on Sunday 7th October for what will be the inaugural Commonwealth Half-Marathon Championships. England Athletics are pleased to be sending full teams to compete against teams from Australia, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, New Zealand, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales are due to gather in Cardiff.
This coming weekend the MBNA Chester Marathon will host a team of around 170 runners England Age Group Masters runners who will don the specially designed England representative masters vest.
