Safe Athletics Track and Field Safety Guide for Competition now online

Safe Athletics is a new initiative developed by UK Athletics and Home Country Athletics Federations that seeks to raise standards of safety within athletics via best practice guidance and information made freely available to anyone involved in its delivery. The Safe Athletics resources will provide the best opportunity to avoid accidents and injuries and help ensure the safety of everyone.

Steeplechase workshops: technique and functional strength

Two steeplechase workshops will be taking place in the North West in the coming months. A session on steeplechase technique and session guidance will be delivered by with Stuart Stokes and Helen Clitheroe in Preston on 22nd April, and a session on fuctional strength for steeplechase - deliverd by Trevor Painter and Helen Clitheroe will take place in Wigan on 13th May.

Starting gun fires for Road Running Roadshows

This week saw the first two of five England Athletics Road Running Roadshows take place in London and Peterborough. The events, designed for members of road running clubs, road running coaches and leaders, event organisers and anyone else involved with off-track running, saw members of England Athletics staff outline the various programmes and initiatives that England Athletics delivers for the off-track community.

Ensure your coaching licence is valid - you need a DBS

To hold a valid UKA licence for coaching (including Coaching Assistant and Leadership in Running fitness) you must have a current DBS check. We would strongly urge all coaches to check that their DBS check is up to date and that their profile has their correct details so that a DBS reminder can be sent to you.

Athletes and coaches benefit from marathon weekend

The second Performance Group Athlete and Coach Marathon Weekend held as part of the development programme for the event has been held. As well as training sessions in the Forest of Dean the weekend included talks from physiologist Prof Andy Jones covering his work on the Breaking2 project and with elite athletes such as Paula Radcliffe, London Marathon winner 2:09 marathoner Mike Gratton, and performance and clinical dietician Renee McGregor.
