To support Time to Talk Day on 1st February, we are encouraging people to #RunAndTalk to improve their mental wellbeing through running and to break down the stigma associated with mental health by getting people talking about it.
Applications for our Club Run programme are now open for off-track and road running clubs across the country.In the last eighteen months 64 clubs across the country have got involved in the Club Run programme with well over 100 club run visits having taking place to date and over 2000 running participants taking part in the sessions, involving 25 experienced coaches. A further 40+ clubs will have the opportunity to get involved in Club Run during 2018.
England Athletics is saddened to hear of the news of the passing away of Bob Parker, aged 88. Bob was coach to international athletes including Dave Bedford, Mara Yamauchi, Alison Wyeth and Andrea Whitcombe as well as working with many other club athletes.
The England teams faced very strong opposition from a host of African runners at the Cross Internacional de Italica over the weekend.
The British Athletics Supporters' Club (BASC) assists Coaches and Officials with bursaries throughout the year. BASC will award sums of up to £250 to successful applicants who wish to pursue higher standards. This might possibly, but not exclusively, involve attending a qualification course run by UK Athletics, England Athletics or similar organisations.
One of the most prestigious Cross Country races of the Winter takes place in Seville, Spain this Sunday when the 36th Cross International de Italica is staged. The English Cross Country Association has four teams in action representing England.
We would like to remind you of important information regarding Data Protection. A change in government legislation regarding data protection called The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)will be in place from 25th May 2018. Athletics and running clubs will have to ensure that they are compliant with the new Government regulations. Last November England Athletics produced guidance for affiliated clubs and associations to help with identifying the key areas that they should now be addressing as a result of the additional requirements arising from the upcoming introduction of GDPR.
The best of Britain will gather in Birmingham on the weekend of 17-18 February as they compete for the prestigious honour of being crowned British champion and battle for a place on the British team ahead of March's IAAF World Indoor Championships due to be held in the very same arena a few later.
If you are involved in the club road running in any role - as a runner, club officer, coach, leader or any other position - we have a series of FREE events designed specifically for you. This is an opportunity for you to share your ideas with senior members of England Athletics staff and to find out about the new and existing initiatives available to support road running clubs. At each of the sessions there will also be an interview and QA with an England Road Running International athlete or experienced coach about their experiences, training and club coaching environments.
As many a runner typically makes a few New Year's resolutions and competition goals at the start of each calendar year why not consider getting involved in some of our age group masters competitions. For the masters road running community we have representative teams at 10K and Marathon over a range of age groups.
