Preston Harriers thank their Volunteer Heroes

Clubs are full of volunteers whose tireless contributions have a hugely positive impact on other people's enjoyment within the sport. How do we best celebrate these volunteer heroes? Sophie Warden shares a new initiative her club Preston Harriers have introduced with the aim of doing just that.

Save the date - Our first Volunteer Conference scheduled for February

We are extremely proud to announce that we are hosting our very first conference for volunteers! Our conference will be an interactive day, with opportunity to hear from leading experts, England Athletics staff and volunteers covering topics from how to involve more volunteers, how to develop and progress within your role, through to how to being more resilient or making change happen locally.

This was our 10th year of volunteer awards - that's 10 years of celebrating the outstanding contribution volunteers across England give to make our sport happen. The Importance of DBS checks

It is a requirement that coaches, officials and volunteers in certain roles in athletics hold a current DBS check through UKA. We explain the importance of these checks and how systems have been put in place to help getting your DBS check done or updated as straight forward as possible.

Fun for athletes, officials and parents at the Tom Pink Relays

In the 10th year of the Tom Pink Relays event, the atmosphere at Lee valley recently buzzed with young athlete teams "Chasing Kelly", "Chasing Steve", and "Keeping Up with Paula" on the track. Meanwhile, others competed in events such as Caber Toss and Highland Steps, as well as more traditional Sportshall events like Standing Long Jump and Shot Put. The Tom Pink Relays also provided great opportunities for new volunteers to give officiating a try.

BASC bursaries available for coaches and officials

The British Athletics Supporters' Club (BASC) assists Coaches and Officials with bursaries throughout the year. BASC will award sums of up to £250 to successful applicants who wish to pursue higher standards. This might possibly, but not exclusively, involve attending a qualification course run by UK Athletics, England Athletics or similar organisations.

England Athletics would like to bring to your attention some new documents regarding Throws Safety procedures that have been produced by UKA - these are relevant to officials, coaches, event organisers and facility operators.

Volunteers recognised at 2017 England Athletics Hall of Fame

Our congratulations to our 2017 National Volunteer Award winners who were presented and recognised at Hall of Fame and Volunteer Awards evening. Eight awards were made to people, clubs and organisations who have given so much time and energy to the sport. The categories were, Coach, Official, Club, Volunteer, Young Volunteer, Innovation Project, Run Group of the Year, plus Services to Athletics.

Our Hall of Fame and Volunteer Awards evening is taking place this weekend

This year's England Athletics Hall of Fame and National Volunteer Awards night takes place on Saturday 14th October at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. It's your chance to meet our outstanding volunteers, plus top athletes who have previously been inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame as well as athletes and nominees who have been put forward for induction in 2017.
