It may have been the hottest London marathon in history with un-seasonally warm temperatures, but conditions did not stop Sir Mo Farah (Newham Essex Beagles) setting a new British record and taking the men's English and British Champion titles. Lily Partridge (Aldershot Farnham District) was first woman home to take the women's British and English Champion titles.
This Sunday sees thousands of runners taking to the streets of London for the Virgin Money London Marathon. The event also incorporates the England Athletics Marathon championships for both individual and team medals for men and women. We wish everyone taking part the best of luck and to heed the hot weather warnings and prepare accordingly.
The University of Exeter, supported by England Athletics, are looking for participants to help with a research study looking into the training practices, injury and social identity of adolescent distance runners, aged 13 to 18 years old.
Lily Hill Park in Bracknell was the venue for the 21st running of the Bracknell Schools Invitation Cross Country Relays. There are 4 races which were all about team running as the athletes took on the woodland and meadow course in a relay format. This year the event was made possible through financial support from England Athletics.
The 11th Annual English Cross Country Association Open meeting will be held on Saturday 19th May at the Smart Aston Court Hotel, Derby. All Clubs affiliated to England Athletics for cross country running are eligible to attend and vote. The meeting will start at 12 noon.
The annual England versus Ireland road running challenge took place yesterday in Dublin's Phoenix Park, with a team of three men and three women taking on Ireland's best in a bid to win the Sean Kyle team trophy. The event also combines Athletics Ireland's 10k Championships and consequently attracts strong fields from across the host nation.
A sunny Sutton Park hosted the English Road Running Association's Men's 12 Stage and Women's 6 Stage Road Relay Championships, as Tonbridge AC and Leeds City AC emerged victorious. Medals were also up for grabs in the ERRA English 5k championships for Under 17 and Under 15 athletes earlier on in the day.
The ERRA Men's 12 Stage And Women's 6 Stage National Road Relay Championships held in Association with us at England Athletics will take place at Sutton Park, Birmingham on Saturday 14th April. The Road Relays are the highlight of the calendar for many athletics and running clubs and always provide an exciting competition.
Congratulations to the athletes who have been selected to represent England on the road this Spring at distances from the mile to half marathon. Selections are listed for the Garmin Great Ireland 10k, International Attnanger Spitz Mile (Austria), Trofeo Opitergium International U20 Road Race (Italy), and Lillebaelt Half Marathon (Denmark).

The three Bexley Mencap runners, Luke, Emmanuel and Matt, like to keep fit, and are regular members of Bexley Mencap's Run Together group which provides Keep Fit classes for people with Learning Disabilities.
