The Brighton Marathon are once again offering England Athletics registered athletes guaranteed entries at their event. They are also offering specific packages for domestic elite athletes, including domestic athlete only prize funds, and the race is also a qualifying event for Masters Athletes to gain selection to represent England.
While the 30th British and Irish Masters Cross Country International was taking place in Northern Ireland over the weekendthere was plenty of other action both overseas and in the UK, including road racing and cross country both at home and abroad.
Following a highly successful switch to Prestwold Hall near Loughborough in 2017, the National Cross-Country Finals for school years 5, 6, and 7 will return to the same venue on Saturday March 24th2018. England Athletics will be supporting the event again, and with the action from the course being live-streamed on a 12 metre screen, and live across the world, it certainly has a big occasion feel about it.
On the 4th April 2018 the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will be getting underway on Australia's Gold Coast. Last month, Team England announced which athletes had been selected to take the 75 allocated places on the athletics squad, and those athletes will now be preparing for what is considered the competition pinnacle for England representative teams. We will be catching up with various members of the squad as they set their sights on next year's event in Queensland.
While Jess Judd and Mahamed Mahamed were among the winners at the British Athletics Cross Challenge meeting in Milton Keynes and Laura Muir won her third consecutive Scottish short course cross country title, there was plenty of other action taking place including World Championships marathoner runs 2:30 in Japan, while Fionnuala McCormack, Steph Twell and Lily Partridge compete at Cross de Atapuerca in Spain.
Entries are now open for the Antrim International Cross Country at Greenmount on 6th January 2018. This is the 41st Edition of the competition which has been held at various venues across Northern Ireland since it began at Mallusk in 1977. The event is in its 9th year at Greenmount.
Foreign Athlete applications for 2018 are now open. Clubs are required to complete the Foreign Athlete Application form for new athletes that fall under Rule 21 S5 (5) in the UKA Rules for Competition.
As well as the Commonwealth Games, England Athletics sends teams to a variety of competitions and also works with other associations in England to provide competitive opportunities for athletes. We are pleased to announce the selection policies and events for our Mountain Runners - plus opportunities for young athletes to learn more about this discipline at various Camps.
