England Athletics today reveals a significant spike in coaching course bookings in the first three weeks of its new #gocoach campaign. Fronted by the joint fastest woman in the world in 2018, Dina Asher-Smith, #gocoach aims to bring 10,000 new people into athletics and running coaching by 2020.
England Athletics is proud to be one of the first sporting organisations to proactively approach the Sport and Recreation Alliance to support its #RightToBeActive campaign, which asks all of society to join the call for government to embed the fundamental right of all children to be active into policy, regulations and legislation.
England Athletics Chief Executive Chris Jones headed to Yorkshire club Spenborough District AC to find out more about their activities. The club trains at Princess Mary Athletics Stadium in Cleckheaton. On arrival Chris was met by the club chair Jason Newell who outlined the set-up of the club and the different training groups who would be in action that evening.
UK Athletics has announced plans to undertake an exercise to bring all UK throws safety cages up to modern IAAF standard specifications over the next few years. The move will see more than 200 UK throws cages modified to meet international cage standards.
UKA have today announced a new mandatory online safeguarding course for all athletics coaches has been launched in an effort to ensure that all children, young people and adults at risk within the sport are protected. UKA and the Home Country Athletics Federations, have been working with EduCare - an independent and industry-leading provider - to develop the bespoke online safeguarding course which will meet the blended training requirements within the Child Protection in Sport Unit(CPSU) annual NGB assessment process.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list, which is updated at least annually, identifies substances and methods which athletes are prohibited from using under the anti-doping rules. The 2019 version of this list which comes into effect on 1 January 2019 is available. Athletes and coaches should make themselves aware of this list and where they can find further anti-doping information.
There were some great races once again as the cross country relays were held at their now traditional home of Berry Hill Park, Mansfield. Large fields were involved and a range of clubs made their impression on the event as the athletes contested the titles and medals at the front end and many rivalries through the fields.
Entries for the Sport and Recreation Alliance annual Community Sport and Recreation Awards are open and will close on on Sunday 18 November. This awards programme is free and easy to enter and has been running for over 20 years. The awards programme focuses on celebrating the great work going on in sport and recreation at a grassroots level, and champions grassroots work on a national scale, using examples of best practice to drive positive, societal change.
Club members, athletes, runners, officials and volunteers are invited to come along to meet, discuss and share ideas on athletics and running with members of the England Athletics Board and staff. This event takes place on Tuesday 6th November (6:30pm - 9pm) at Ageas Bowl, Botley Road, West End, Southampton, SO30 3XH.
Bexley Goodgym managed a great run and walk out to help their friends at Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice. Bexley Mencap members who were originally part of a running and keep fit group are now regular weekly volunteers with Bexley GoodGym.
