Agata stood at the edge of the athletics track and heard the patter of feet stream past. 8 sprinters training, as they do four times a week. Both her sisters were part of the training group and their older, blind sister, wanted to be part of that running world as well. She didn't know how to get a foot in the door or whether it was completely unrealistic to even be thinking about it.
This Sunday sees thousands of runners taking to the streets of London for the Virgin Money London Marathon. The event also incorporates the England Athletics Marathon championships for both individual and team medals for men and women. England Athletics are pleased to announce that online entry for our U23 and U20 Championships is now open. The championships will take place in Bedford on 16-17 June and will also be the trials for the World U20 Championships which take place in July in Tampere, Finland.
The 11th Annual English Cross Country Association Open meeting will be held on Saturday 19th May at the Smart Aston Court Hotel, Derby. All Clubs affiliated to England Athletics for cross country running are eligible to attend and vote. The meeting will start at 12 noon.
It was another busy weekend with Commonwealth Games action, the national road relays and Brighton Marathon but other highlights included the Garmin Great Ireland Run, plus other road races from Italy and Boston USA, Stafford and Norwich Half-Marathons, Derby and Mersey Tunnel 10k races. There are also track and field round ups from the USA.
The annual England versus Ireland road running challenge took place yesterday in Dublin's Phoenix Park, with a team of three men and three women taking on Ireland's best in a bid to win the Sean Kyle team trophy. The event also combines Athletics Ireland's 10k Championships and consequently attracts strong fields from across the host nation.
