Plummeting temperatures and icy winds courtesy of the Beast from the East did not deter runners taking part in the highly regarded Parelloop 10k in Brunssum, Netherlands. England's Sam Stabler set a new 10k personal best on the road, and all England's women earned top ten positions.
This year Leeds will host the English Schools' AA Cross Country Championship on Saturday 17th March. Temple Newsam Park is the location for the 58th boys' and 50th girls' event. The Junior and Intermediate age groups will be selected for the SIAB International at Wollaton Park on the 24th March.
An England Athletics race walking team competed in Switzerland over the weekend race walk teams for the Lugano Trophy 15th Memorial Mario Albisetti 20km. This year, to continue to provide international race opportunities and experience prior to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, a team of four competed for England.
The England Athletics 10km Race Walking Championships was incorporated into the Molly Barnett Open Walks, promoted by Coventry Godiva Harriers on Sunday 11th March. With England's top walkers in action in Lugano, this left the way clear for the younger generation to take victory. Junior Chris Snook took the Men's 10km Championships, and Ana Garcia became the women's England Champion.
East End Road Runners were out in force at the Big Half marathon. Most of the club were either running the half marathon or volunteering on a water station at mile 3. For a lot of members this was the furthest distance they had run.
England Athletics have teamed up with the University of Wolverhampton to be able to offer the athletes on the marathon programme free physiological testing at the University. This is a fantastic opportunity to be professionally tested on treadmills and in a sports science laboratory.
England Athletics has launched a new partnership with DW Fitness First - the UK's leading gym and retail company - who have become our Official Retail and Fitness partner, as well as the lead partner for RunTogether. To celebrate the launch of this partnership, Olympian Jenny Meadows will be our special guest with opportunities for QA at the DW Sports Fitness in Barrow-in-Furness on 25th April.
The ERWL and Enfield Haringey AC lost a great supporter and servant when Bernie Hercock passed away on 25th February. Bernie's funeral will take place at 11.30am on 21st March at The Enfield Crematorium. We publish an obityary sent by the Club.
This Sunday 11th March sees the England Athletics 10k Walk championships, incorporated into the Molly Barnett Open Road Walks being held in Coventry.
Following the cancellation of the Trafford 10k due to the recent extreme weather, and the announcement that the event will not be rescheduled in the next eight weeks England Athletics acknowledge the disappointment for many age group runners. We can confirm that Trafford entrants will have the opportunity at the rescheduled race to qualify for a future Age Group Masters team.
