Sophie is the England Athletics Volunteer Development Intern and was fortunate enough to be a Gem at the World Indoor Championships 2018. Gems were the 400 non-technical volunteers at the championships. Here is her story:
Two steeplechase workshops will be taking place in the North West in the coming months. A session on steeplechase technique and session guidance will be delivered by with Stuart Stokes and Helen Clitheroe in Preston on 22nd April, and a session on fuctional strength for steeplechase - deliverd by Trevor Painter and Helen Clitheroe will take place in Wigan on 13th May.

Our Find a Guide programme has been helping visually impaired people find guide runners across England to support them to run for nearly 2 years now. We've been listening to feedback about the database and have made some improvements to make it even easier for visually impaired people to find a guide runner and run, wherever and whenever suits them! We've upgraded the database with a new look and lots of improved functions.
The World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) will be holding their 2018 International Youth Cup in Lanzada, Italy this year. England Athletics will be sending a team of up to 4 under 18 men and 4 under 18 women to compete.
Plummeting temperatures and icy winds courtesy of the Beast from the East did not deter runners taking part in the highly regarded Parelloop 10k in Brunssum, Netherlands. England's Sam Stabler set a new 10k personal best on the road, and all England's women earned top ten positions.
England Athletics are offering developing juniors as well as developing and elite senior runners a number of England representative opportunities at a range of distances on the roads this coming Spring. This includes the Great Ireland Run, Attnanger Road Mile International (Austria), Trofeo Opitergium (Italy), and Lillebaelt Halv Marathon (Denmark).
The Tom Pink Relays were held in conjunction with the 2018 England Athletics indoor combined events championships at the EIS on Saturday. This is the 11th year that the relays have been held at the EIS. More than 250 children in the under 11 and under 13 age groups made the journey and took part in what was an exciting and fun competition.
This year Leeds will host the English Schools' AA Cross Country Championship on Saturday 17th March. Temple Newsam Park is the location for the 58th boys' and 50th girls' event. The Junior and Intermediate age groups will be selected for the SIAB International at Wollaton Park on the 24th March.
