Plummeting temperatures and icy winds courtesy of the Beast from the East did not deter runners taking part in the highly regarded Parelloop 10k in Brunssum, Netherlands. England's Sam Stabler set a new 10k personal best on the road, and all England's women earned top ten positions.
England Athletics are offering developing juniors as well as developing and elite senior runners a number of England representative opportunities at a range of distances on the roads this coming Spring. This includes the Great Ireland Run, Attnanger Road Mile International (Austria), Trofeo Opitergium (Italy), and Lillebaelt Halv Marathon (Denmark).
The Tom Pink Relays were held in conjunction with the 2018 England Athletics indoor combined events championships at the EIS on Saturday. This is the 11th year that the relays have been held at the EIS. More than 250 children in the under 11 and under 13 age groups made the journey and took part in what was an exciting and fun competition.
This year Leeds will host the English Schools' AA Cross Country Championship on Saturday 17th March. Temple Newsam Park is the location for the 58th boys' and 50th girls' event. The Junior and Intermediate age groups will be selected for the SIAB International at Wollaton Park on the 24th March.
The major events of the weekend were the Inter-Counties' Cross Country Championships and British Athletics Cross Challenge final plus the NCAA Indoor Championships. Other notable performances included Results from the Podium 5k, Lugano Trophy, England Athletics Combined Events Championships and more, plus Valerie Adams enjoys a winning return.
An England Athletics race walking team competed in Switzerland over the weekend race walk teams for the Lugano Trophy 15th Memorial Mario Albisetti 20km. This year, to continue to provide international race opportunities and experience prior to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, a team of four competed for England.
The England Athletics 10km Race Walking Championships was incorporated into the Molly Barnett Open Walks, promoted by Coventry Godiva Harriers on Sunday 11th March. With England's top walkers in action in Lugano, this left the way clear for the younger generation to take victory. Junior Chris Snook took the Men's 10km Championships, and Ana Garcia became the women's England Champion.
It was all change for Day 2 of the Under 17 men's indoor heptathlon. With athletes' strengths and weaknesses dramatically changing the positions after day 2's sprint hurdles, pole vault and 1000m, it was an exciting spectacle in Sheffield. Meanwhile, our Under 15 athletes were making their mark in the one day indoor pentathlon on Sunday.
The first of our 2018 Under 17 combined events champions was crowned today with the one day U17 women's pentathlon champion Emily Bee taking gold, 45 points ahead of Steph Driscoll in silver and Iris Oliarnyk took the bronze trailing just 10 points. The first day of the U17 men's heptathlon sees Theo Adesina in the lead overnight.
East End Road Runners were out in force at the Big Half marathon. Most of the club were either running the half marathon or volunteering on a water station at mile 3. For a lot of members this was the furthest distance they had run.
