World Parkinson’s Day

This week marks World Parkinson’s Day – a day of awareness for a condition with which more than 10 million people are living, worldwide. The number of people living with Parkinson’s in England is estimated to be around 128,000 and, although there is currently no cure for the condition, physical activity and exercise has shown to improve many of the numerous symptoms associated with Parkinson’s.

India Hollingworth has been on the start line for some of the biggest moments in athletics, including Mo Farah’s last track race before he made the switch to marathon, and Usain Bolt’s last 100m final. Having taken up athletics at school, starting as a 1500m runner before moving onto high jump and then triple jump, she also began officiating and loved it.

As part of the process of implementing changes to age groups and following the series of webinars hosted in March, the Home Country Athletics Federations invite expressions of interest from individuals from across the UK and from all areas of the sport to join the Implementation Task Group and associated sub groups.
