Race walking teams selected to compete Switzerland and Slovakia

England Athletics are pleased to announce race walking teams selected to compete in the Lugano Trophy which takes place in Switzerland on 19th March, and the EAA Permit Meeting which takes place in Dudince, Slovakia on 25th March.

England Athletics' Endurance Event Coordinator Race Walking Andi Drake said, "Lugano sees several athletes stepping up as they move through the age groups - no other event group challenges athletes to shift up their competition workloads to the same extent, creating a unique environment for athletes and coaches. The 20km performances of last season’s World junior 10000m athletes are an obvious focus - it will be fascinating to see how they go!  All racers in Switzerland or Slovakia will want to challenge for GB&NI Team places from the European Race Walking Cup in May through to the World Athletics Championships in August, with age group opportunities in between."

Tom Bosworth lines up for his first Olympic distance race of the season, competing for England Athletics in the Lugano Trophy Meet in Lugano, Switzerland on 19th March, looking to build on his outstanding indoor form as he prepares for the World Championships 20km in London in August. Joining him in the 20km will be World Junior Champion, Callum Wilkinson, making his 20km debut; and Cameron Corbishley, fresh from a big 10 km PB in Coventry last weekend.

Gemma Bridge races her first 20km with a winter of PBs behind her over 3000 m and 10km – the former McNeese University Cross Country Team athlete will look to impress and mix it with the Welsh athletes, Bethan Davies & Heather Lewis. 2016’s top U18 athletes Chris Snook and Tom Partington race the U20 10km, as does Italian-based Molly Davey in the U20 Women’s 10km.

EAA Permit Meeting, Dudince

  • Dominic King (Club: Colchester Harriers)

Double Olympian Dominic King will compete in the Dudince 50km, which is the GB&NI Trial for the World Championships. Dom set a personal best of 3:55:48 in Germany in October and will look to secure his London Team place in the always strong Slovakian race.
