Poole Pheidippides team complete World Marathon Challenge and beat Men's World Record

On the 8th October, a team of 16 girls and 14 boys from Poole AC, running as "Poole Pheidippides", completed the latest Eveque England Athletics World Marathon Challenge.  This involved a continuous relay with alternating boy-girl each running legs of 200m. until they had completed the 105.5 laps of the Marathon distance.  The target was to beat the current Men's World Record by as much as possible.

Considering the youngest two were 10 and oldest a SM V50 they did well to average 32 secs for each of 211 legs!  So they totalled 1-53-18, beating the current record (2-02-57) by nearly ten minutes.  But it shows how fast the top Africans can run 26 miles !

This time has been submitted to the organisers and the team are currently 5th globally.
