Cambridge Harriers Women's 400m race in memory of Pat Kippax

Cambridge Harriers will be hosting a Women's 400m race in memory of Pat Kippax in conjunction with its BMC / Open Meeting on Wednesday 22nd July at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham SE9.

Pat, who tragically lost her battle with cancer in 2009, ran in the inaugural women’s Olympic 400m in Tokyo (1964).  Pat clocked 54.4 in the semi, just missing out on a place in the final.  Indeed, the same time in the other semi would have secured Pat a lane in the final  – which was won by Betty Cuthbert of Australia in 52.0, ahead of Britain’s Ann Packer (52.2).

First held in 2010, Cambridge Harriers are committed to making this event a prestigious event for athletes from in and around the capital, and so are offering prizes of £50 for first, £40 for second and £30 for third.  There is also an additional bonus available for the winner, if they beat Pat’s time of 54.4 set in Tokyo.  Currently, the fastest time in the event is 55.01 by Rachael Dickens (Blackheath and Bromley) in 2014.

To secure a place in this 6 women field could you please contact Pauline Boorman on: 0208 306 1346 or email: paulineboorman@hotmail.com by 10th July 2015.
