Mountain Running teams announced for Sedbergh Home International

The Mountain Running Senior Home International takes place within the 2018 British Athletics European Mountain Running Championships Trial which will take place at Sedbergh on 2 June. We are pleased to announce the England team who will compete at the event.

This is the 8th Mountain Running Home International and England have been very successful with the men and women winning the team title 6 times each. England have had 9 Individual winners.

Team Manager Mark Croasdale said, "With selection at stake for the European Mountain Running Championships to be held in Skopjie, Macedonia on the 1st July as well as the Home International we expect the competition to be fierce in both men’s and women’s races."

  • Emma Gould (Club: Mercia Fell Runners / Birchfield Harriers, Coach: William Laye)
  • Tessa Strain (Club: Highgate Harriers)

Nick Swinburn has run for England and GB&NI on the mountains numerous times over the years and it was no surprise that he won the Inter Counties mountain race (incorporating the England trial race) to gain selection for the years Home International. Chris Arthur ran at the European Mountain Running Championships last year in Slovenia and is continuing that fine form into this season finishing 3rd at the Inter Counties. Alex Pilcher has had injury problems over the last few seasons, but is back to form finishing 5th at the Inter Counties to gain selection. Harry Holmes will be making his England debut on the mountains after finishing 6th at Inter Counties. Max Nicholls has a wealth of experience running on the mountains, having represented England and GB&NI as a junior and Senior at the World Mountain Running Championships. Max was 2nd at the Inter Counties. Joshua Jardine will also be making his England debut after finishing the 2nd u23 at the Inter Counties.

Katie Walshaw is the most experienced mountain runner in the women’s team having represented GB&NI at a number of World and European Championships, Katie was 6th at the Inter Counties. Nichola Jackson has recently been selected for GB&NI to run at the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Poland at the end on June and is having an excellent season, Nichola was 7th at the Inter Counties. Emma Gould ran for England a few seasons ago and ran a superb race to finish 3rd at the Inter Counties. Tessa Strain finished 4th at the Inter Counties and is a past winner of the Snowdon International Mountain race.
