Introduction to Wheelchair Racing Workshop

Introduction to Wheelchair Racing Workshop

17 people attended the workshop, that took place at Gateshead and was organised through Gateshead Harriers and the Inspiration Programme.

In attendance was Stephen Miller (Triple Paralympic Champion), Rachel Miller (Managing Director of Smile through Sport), as well as coaches from around the local area, and also a number of athletes who were relatively new to wheelchair racing.

The Workshop covered:

1. Introduction to wheelchair racing and impairment information

2. Equipment Overview

3. Positioning and Pushing Technique

4. Training Implications

5. Putting it all into practice – the coaching eye

Feedback from a number of participants was, that the workshop provided some great information to help to support the development of wheelchair racing for the Club, and to help develop new athletes getting started in the sport. ‘This was pitched at just the right level for the needs of what I need.’
