Hammer Squad Coach Development Days introducedA series of Hammer sessions have been scheduled in the East region for this winter. These sessions will be led by some of the leading coaches in the region and aim to support coaches by offering an open environment where coaches can benefit from sharing ideas and knowledge. The first session is on Saturday 14th November at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre (download the programme below) and at future sessions we may also bring in experts to deliver on topics such as strength and conditioning, psychology or other areas that are identified as a need. An important part of the first session will be to establish the content of future sessions by consulting with you, the coach, to ensure it is relevant and beneficial.
These sessions form a key part of England Athletics' Coach Development Programme as we look to support coaches at all levels reach their potential. Malcolm Fenton, the newly appointed National Coach Mentor for Hammer, is based in the East region; and these sessions have been coordinated by Malcolm together with Rob Earle (Colchester Harriers AC) and Craig Bloomfield (Ipswich Harriers AC) to specifically meet the needs of local coaches.
The sessions are due to take place once a month, over the next six months and will be located at various venues across the region. The second day is scheduled for December 12th (TBC) in Cambridge (TBC) and subsequent dates / locations will be announced in due course. There will be a progression between the sessions so participating coaches should endeavour to attend all sessions.
The emphasis of these sessions is on coach development and we would encourage all active hammer coaches (Level 2 and above) to attend if you have an interest in learning from other coaches and learning more about the event. To reflect this, some sessions will be ‘coach and athlete’ and some ‘coach only’. The first session at Chelmsford is for coaches and athletes. With this in mind, in order to keep things to a manageable size and at a reasonably technical level we would like to extend this invitation to those of your athletes that meet the following criteria:
- Male – U17 and older throwing in excess of 44m
- Female – U17 and older throwing in excess of 38m
As part of the Local Coach Development Programme, these sessions are completely FREE to attend. If you would like to attend this session and register for the LCDP please contact your relevant Club and Coach Support Officer with your name, club and details of any athletes you would like to invite:
