Following County competitions and then Regional rounds earlier this month, the Grand Final of the English Schools' AA Cross Country Championships took place in Kent on 25th November.

Dr Challoner's High School and Grammar School in Amersham took poduim positions in every age group, winning both Junior events, 2nd in the Inter Boys and 3rd in the Inter Girls.

However, despite this remarkable feat, both the Junior Boys' and the Inter Girls' compeititons, first and second positions were separated by just one point!  The Coopers' Company and Coborn School, Upminster missed the Junior Boys' top spot by one point from Dr Challoner's who fielded the overall winner Matt Aldred, and Southend High School came third.  The team result was in fact identical for the Junior Girls' event, albeit with a bigger points difference.  Click here for Junior Boys results

In the Junior Girls' race, Dr Challoner's High School showed their strength in depth with all their athletes (including non-scorers) in the top 33 placings, with their top scorer Abbie Henderson in 4th, just 3 seconds behind winner Ruby Vinton (Woodbridge School), then Daisy Pellow and Annie Naylor who helped their schools to 5th and 4th overall.  Click here for Junior Girls results

Ermysted's Grammar School took a convincing victory in the Inter Boys' event with a 34 point lead over Dr Challoner's Grammar School.  St Albans School came third.  One of the athletes we tipped to watch was Aaron Samuel (Southend High School for Boys) who improved on last year's 21st to win as an individual and help his school take 9th.  Dr Challoner's athletes Alex Aldred and Angus Williams took 3rd and 4th behind Aaron and Robin Regan from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Penrith who took overall 4th.  Click here for Inter Boys results

With the top 2 schools gaining top 100 places for all their athletes (including non scoring), it showed that every place mattered (with some places separated by only one or two seconds) as the Inter Girls' race was won by one point for City of London School for Girls over Millfield School, and Dr Challoner's High School was third - the only team to have a top 5 individual athlete.  Individual winning times were Jodie Hill, Abbie Ives and Jessica Spilsbury who ran 10/21. 10.22 and 10.23 respectively.  Click here for Inter Girls results
