English Schools' AA Cross Country Cup Final: preview

English Schools' AA Cross Country Cup Final: preview

The English Schools' AA 37th Cross Country Cup Final takes place this Saturday 27th November at Sevenoaks School in Kent.  Competing for the school team title are Juniors (years 7/8) and Intermediates (years 9/10). This year’s course is around the school, with the course going slightly uphill at the start and from about half way round the final section it is flat and fast.

  • Intermediate Girls: 1pm
  • Junior Boys: 1.30pm
  • Junior Girls: 2pm
  • Intermediate Boys: 2.20pm

The local team from Sevenoaks School is predicted to do well in the Intermediate Girls' competition, plus Loreto Grammar School from Altrincham have entered Jessica Spilsbury, and last year's winning school team included Freya Jones from Charters School at Ascot - both athletes finished in the top 20 last year.  The winning Intermediate Boys' team this year could be very close between two schools; Aaron Samuel from Southend on Sea finished well last year, and Northampton School have Noah Bennett who finished 3rd last year in the Junior race, and team mate Fergus Scott finished in 23rd place in the 2016 Intermediate champs.

It is difficult to predict the junior results, however there are three junior boys from last year entered this year who could run very well. Conner Roberts (Northampton School for Boys) finished 17th, Jath Lee (Ermysted’s Grammar School, Skipton) also finished well, and this year's favourites for the title are Bourne Grammar School, Lincolnshire whose team includes Harry Hewitt who placed 27th last year.  There are also three from last year's junior girls' event who could do well this year. The team race could well be between two schools - Notre Dame High School in Sheffield (last year's winners), and Canon Slade School.  Notre Dame team members this year include last year's 15th placed Isabel Causer and Annie Naylor who was 36th. Eva Baldwin from Canon Slade School, Bolton came 43rd last year, in a team with others from the same school who are still eligible at this age group.

We wish them all the best!
