England Athletics Marathon programme teams up with Wolverhampton University
England Athletics have teamed up with the University of Wolverhampton to be able to offer the athletes on the marathon programme free physiological testing at the University. This is a fantastic opportunity to be professionally tested on treadmills and in a sports science laboratory. The Standard testing protocol is a VO2 Max + Lactate Threshold test. It will create profiles for each athlete so that they can easily monitor progress through repeat testing over time.
This will give the university the chance to buildon their track record of research in endurance performance, and can create case studies which will be useful in future England marathon weekend camps. Data will help create training zones that enable athletes to tailor their training programmes to make sure they are operating at the correct speed and intensity for their particular event. This type of service is mainly used by elite internationals but is being offered to the marathon group to try and help raise the standards and improves the athlete’s personal bests.
Nick Anderson, England Athletics Marathon Coordinator, said “This is an amazing opportunity for the marathon group and I would encourage all of them to take up the offer. This is a great way to identify and dump the junk miles and move your training into very specific zones so you get the most out if your individual training plan. Why waste 2 hours training when you can get the same benefit in a targeted shorter effort? This testing and subsequent training zones will be invaluable in the lead up to marathon races.”
Dan Robinson who is currently studying for a PhD at the University and who is also on the marathon programme will be the point of contact for all bookings.
