England Athletics and Commonwealth Games England are delighted to announce details of the athletics selection policy for the 2018 Commonwealth Games are now available.

The 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games will take place in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018. Over 6,500 athletes and team officials from more than 70 nations and territories will come together to compete in 18 sports and 7 para-sports over 11 days.

England Athletics Head of Coaching and Athlete Development Martin Rush said, “We are delighted to be able to announce this selection policy, for what looks set to be a tremendous Games. We are aiming to take as strong and as large a team as we can to compete in the “Friendly Games’ a title that belies the strength of competition that exists in the Commonwealth.
“The Glasgow 2014 Games saw many memorable performances by English athletes with new names coming to the fore and established athletes adding to their successes. We are sure that the athletes selected to represent England, will once again be making their mark when the Games are held on the other side of the world.”

Athletes, and coaches of athletes, who will be targeting the 2018 Commonwealth Games are strongly encouraged to read the full policy, so that they understand the process for England Athletics nominating a team within quotas given by Commonwealth Games England. Due to a different selection process the para policy will be released as soon as we have full information from Commonwealth Games England.
