Appointment of new Coordinator for Merseyside and Cheshire Networks

Both the Merseyside and Cheshire Networks can finally get underway after the appointment of Vicky Huyton, the new Athletics Network Coordinator for both networks.  She will be employed full time and will be split between both networks.

Vicky is a sprints coach at Blackpool Wyre and Fylde AC and has been involved in the sport for many years thanks to her mentor and coach Derek Newton.  She won England Athletics' North West Coach of the Year in 2008 and was chosen as only one of 10 women in the UK to sit on the UKA Women’s Coaching Advisory Group.

The aim of the athletics networks are to strategically work with other local key partners to develop the sport of athletics in Merseyside and Cheshire. This includes driving up the quality of coaching, links with community groups such as schools, competition in clubs and also seek to develop the all round quality of provision within clubs in the network.

MerseysideThe Merseyside Network currently has ten clubs involved which include Liverpool Harriers AC, Liverpool and Pembroke and Sefton AC, Wirral AC, Southport and Waterloo AC, Liverpool Running Club, St Helens and Sutton AC, Wallasey AC, Mossely Hill AC , Penny Lane Striders and Liverpool Challenge.


CheshireThe Cheshire Network currently has seven clubs involved with a mixture of Track and Field and Road Running Clubs, these being West Cheshire AC, Spectrum Striders, Vale Royal AC, Crewe & Nantwich AC, Macclesfield Harriers, South Cheshire Harriers, Warrington and Halton and Frodsham AC.

The Cheshire Network will host a launch event at the up and coming Parlauf event hosted by Vale Royal AC on the 22nd September 2010 and a Coach Development Day on the 9th October 2010.
