Applications invited for next round of Club Run
Applications for our Club Run programme are now open for off-track and road running clubs across the country. In the last eighteen months 64 clubs across the country have got involved in the Club Run programme with well over 100 club run visits having taking place to date and over 2000 running participants taking part in the sessions, involving 25 experienced coaches. A further 40+ clubs will have the opportunity to get involved in Club Run during 2018.The closing date for this next round of applications is midnight 1st March.
About Club Run
The aim of the Club Run programme is to support road running clubs and their membership in achieving their desired goals. That could be anything from helping runners prepare for a marathon, improve their 10k PBs or age bests or shape a team for a road relay event or team championship competition. Clubs applying to Club Run will be able to decide what their focus is and discuss goals with their designated coach.
Following the application process, successful clubs are matched with an experienced coach and visits are arranged between the club and the coach. Each participating club receives three visits within a three-month period, with the coach delivering three progressive sessions to help club runners work towards a specific event. In between visits the runners, leaders and coaches are encouraged to work on some of the sessions ideas provided. Participating clubs will also have the opportunity for post session discussions around relevant topics such as fuelling for race day or planning a structured training programme, for example.
Here’s what some of the participants had to say about Club Run.
‘As a coach of such a large and diverse group of runners I have found it difficult to plan the sessions to meet everyone’s needs. On club nights I have often wondered if we just ran together or were we actually training together. Bill showed me how to blend quantity with quality. He gave me confidence to expect a higher level of exertion in the sessions and to make each session progressive, building towards their goal.’
David Newton, Chairman BRJ Run and Tri Club, Cambridgeshire
‘Bryan has transformed the training within the club, it has enabled us to think in terms of an athlete instead of just a person that runs. Already the improvement has been incredible, on a personal level, Bryan has helped to go from a 1:26 half marathon to a 1:20 half marathon!’
Simon Gilbert, Chairman Devizes Running Club, Wiltshire
‘Club Run exceeded our expectations and has given us lots of ideas going forward.’
Myra Jones, Run Leader and Committee Member, Valley Striders, Leeds
