AAA Tom Pink Relays provide stiff competition at Lee Valley

The AAA Tom Pink Relays have been bringing joy to thousands of children across the country each year since 2007. The format, which introduces athletics competition to the younger age groups, has been funded from a legacy left to the AAA by the Pink Family in memory of their son Tom, a keen athlete who was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 18.

Despite careful management of the fund, which was intended to last up to the London Olympics, the legacy is now exhausted but rather than see their event cancelled the staff at Lee Valley with the help of local teams and officials and with the support of the AAA, stepped up and organised their own event on 14 October.

Eight teams entered with clubs travelling from as far away as Brighton to take part. Standards were very high and the stiff competition saw all the teams take home awards. Special congratulations go to Jack Sayer of Herts Phoenix AC who equalled the Tossing the Caber record for Under 11 Boys by scoring the maximum 30 points.

Local organiser Nikki Wright said, “it was a great day for everyone and we hope we can continue this event for the future”.
