2018 Virgin Money London Marathon Club and Championship entries now open

The Virgin Money London Marathon have opened club entries and published the entry process and place allocation for the 2018 event. Club secretaries must submit their application by 5pm on Friday 8 December. Applications for a championship entry into the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon are also now open. Runners will need to submit their application by 5pm on Monday 8 January 2018.

Please note the deadline for runners to complete and pay for their entries is 17:00 on Friday 26 January 2018. The London Marathon do not have an extension to this deadline under any circumstances. It is the club secretary’s / athlete's responsibility to ensure the entries are completed by the closing date.

Registered club athletes may also be eligble for a Championships entry if they meet the criteria.

The 2018 race
Applications for a championship entry into the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon are also now open. Runners will need to submit their application by 5pm on Monday 8 January 2018. Once you have applied, the Virgin Money London Marathon will check your application and, if successful, will send you an email containing a link, which will allow you to complete and pay for your entry. If you have not received an email by 5pm on Wednesday 17 January 2018 please call their helpdesk on 020 7902 0200.

The closing date for completing and paying for your entry (if successful) is 5pm on Monday 22 January 2018.

Do you qualify?
If you're a member of an athletics club affiliated with England Athletics (or one of the other home countries associations), are a registered athlete with that club and you achieve(d) a championship-qualifying performance for a marathon (or half marathon) in 2016 or 2017, you are able to apply for a championship entry place in the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon.

You will need to have completed a marathon (or half marathon) in the same time, or faster than, the times listed below – these are the official championship qualifying performance times. Your qualifying time must be achieved after 1 January 2016:

Men Time Women Time
Full marathon Sub 2:45 Full marathon Sub 3:15
Half marathon Sub 1:15 Half marathon Sub 1:30


You must be registered with your National Governing Body (i.e. England Athletics, Scotland Athletics, Welsh Athletics, Athletics Northern Ireland) otherwise your application will be rejected by the  Virgin Money London Marathon. If you are unsure whether or not you are registered, please check your profile at www.englandathletics.org/myprofile.

Please note: If you already have a Good for Age place in the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon you did not need to apply again. Please email championshipentries@londonmarathonevents.co.uk from January for instructions on how to upgrade your entry.

Brighton Half Marathon results
Following the announcement that the course used for the Brighton half Marathon in 2016 was 146m short of the 13.1-mile distance, London Marathon Events Ltd has reviewed its Championship qualification process.

London Marathon Events Ltd will continue to accept times recorded in the Brighton Half Marathon in 2016 for Championship time qualification for the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon, with the following conditions:

  • For female runners, thirty-eight (38) seconds will be added to the official finish time
  • For male runners, thirty-one (31) seconds will be added to the official finish time
