Regional coach and athlete workshop - Jumps (Sutcliffe Park)

Regional coach and athlete workshop - Jumps (Sutcliffe Park)

Venue: Cambridge Harriers, Sutcliffe Park Athletics Track, Sutcliffe Park, Eltham Road, London SE9 5LW

Summary:  This England Athletics regional coach and athlete workshops will be covering Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump.

The workshop format will be a 1.5hr theory based session on physical prep and planning and a 1.5hr practical session, the practical session will have an event specialist to help solve common faults faced when coaching your athletes and give you tools to solve them.

Each coach that books onto the workshop can bring one athlete, unfortunately this will be limited to the first 10 coaches on a first come first serve basis to make sure we can deliver a valuable learning experience to all the coaches. We will contact the first 10 coaches per event group to confirm they can bring an athlete.

There is a maximum of 20 spaces available per event group for this workshop.

Who can attend: These workshops are pitched at coaching assistant and athletics coach level (old level 1 and 2)

Deliverer: The session will be delivered by our England Athletics Regional Coach Leads with support from national level coaches in the regions.

This workshop: Guy Spencer

Guy has been coaching horizontal jumps for 20 years, it started when he was asked to look after a promising young triple jumper – “because if you don’t nobody else will”. That young athlete was Tosin Oke, and working with him over two spells has given Guy an almost unique insight with what it takes to develop an athlete from their first ever session to an Olympic final.

In the ensuing two decades, Guy has been extremely privileged to work with many dedicated and talented young men and women jumpers – with some of his coaching highlights being becoming an inaugural member of the NCDP scheme in 2009, working with 13 athletes who have won medals at a National level, coaching 10 athletes who have triple jumped over 15m – including two over 16m and one over 17m, and coaching the National Champions of Nigeria, Jamaica and Botswana!
