Para Throws Development Day - Sunday 31st March

A para throws development day will be held from 10.30am - 4pm at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Edmonton, London N9 0AR.

This will provide a day of learning, sharing, participating and networking for anyone interested in para throws.

Athletes can throw alongside other para throwers whilst working with para throws experienced coaches. Coaches can learn and share para coaching information with other coaches.

Areas to be covered are:

  • Barriers associated with Para Throwing, and strategies to overcome and progress
  • Physical preparation of Para Throwers for training and competition
  • Rules and regulations governing seated throws
  • Optimal seated throwing positions.

Bring training gear and dress for both indoor practical and outdoor throwing.

Throwing frames can be provided if you do not have one.

The presenters at this event are

Alison O Riordan - Alison is a specialist para throws coach and has coached multiple Paralympic and World Championship medallists, including current European Champion, Vanessa Wallace. She is a British Athletics Level 3 Performance and Athletics Australia Level 5 (Master) Coach. Alison has been at the forefront of world leading research into the Biomechanics of Seated Throwing for 20 years and is in the final stages of completing a PhD on the subject.

Louise Capicotto - Louise is a Sport and Exercise Psychologist, registered with the British Psychological Society, and works with individuals, teams, coaches, and organisations globally. She is passionate about optimising performance by preparing athletes for the demands of competition, whilst embedding psychological tools into their everyday training practices. As a throws coach and former international powerlifter, Louise recognises the dedication it takes to perform, but also the physical and psychological demands of sport.
